It’s never been easy for me to describe, or write about myself. I think I am a rather unremarkable person. Let’s give this a try.
The short version of who I am would be as follows:
I am a visual storyteller, journalist, poet, and artist.
The longer version? Maybe this will fill the bill.
I have always wanted to be a storyteller. From a young, as going all the way back to Omar Bradley Elementry School, I have wanted to share my stories and my vision of the world with others. My first attempt, while in the fifth grade, was to write a ‘book’ about a vampire that wanted to drink carrot juice rather than blood. In the end, the people who lived at the foot of his mountain drove a stake through his heart.
My first publication came at the age of thirteen. This was in Omni Magazine. It ran in the December issue of that year. Once I saw my work in print, that was it; I was hooked!
It was also at that time I began to take up photography. I found that when words failed me, a visual story would work just as well, if not better. My very first photo found publication in the El Paso Herald-Post, in its prior life.
Since then, the age of thirteen, I have not stopped writing and taking photos. This work, creating, writing, and sharing is a form of salvation for me. It keeps me sane in a world that is rapidly going to pieces.
Recently I have begun working on documentary films again. While living in New York City, I was lucky enough to work on two of them, and I was off and running. If you can tell a story, on anything from the big screen to the one you carry in your pocket and share your feelings with the viewer, you’ve made an impact. I’m working on making those small, but very important changes once again.
I am working to share with you the beauty of the world around me. I hope you will come along for the journey.
